Payout Model

Each month a portion of Skillshare's total subscription revenue is allocated to teacher payments. Teachers are paid based on their share of total minutes watched by members on an active paid subscription (adjusted for member geography and subscription type). A separate engagement reward of $100 goes to active Top Teacher / Rising Teacher program members who earn at least two new positive student reviews in a month.

Requirements

Free to create an account and publish classes (no cost to teach on Skillshare)
Create a class that includes a hands-on project for students
Have at least 50 followers on Skillshare at the end of the month to qualify for a royalty payout
Meet ONE of (effective July 16, 2026): published at least one new quality class within the previous 18 months AND exceed 400 minutes watched by members on an active subscription, OR not published in the last 18 months but exceed 650 total minutes watched by members on an active subscription
At least 75 total minutes watched by members on an active subscription is still required as the baseline to qualify for a royalty payment
Trailer minutes and minutes watched via free access links or free trials do not count toward payment

Common reasons for rejection

Fewer than 50 followers on Skillshare at month end (effective January 1, 2026)
Does not meet the minutes-watched + publishing-activity thresholds for the month
Minutes counted only come from members on an active paid subscription — free-trial and free-access-link minutes are excluded
Trailer minutes do not count toward payment
Content does not comply with Skillshare Community Guidelines / Content Guidelines
